Sometimes it takes just a long forgotten tune drifting from another room, the taste of a cookie I loved in childhood, or the scent of an old perfume bottle found in the corner of my mother's wardrobe. And suddenly, it all comes together - a feeling that quietly tells me what the next doll will look like. The mischievous glimmer in the eyes, the tilt of the head, even the angle of light when I take a photo of that little face. Meet Benjamin. His outfit was inspired by 1930s boys' fashion- a beautifully patterned wool sweater, linen hat, trousers, shirt, and sturdy leather boots.
This is a free-standing doll, with proportions resembling a six year old child. Her legs and arms can bend, and she can sit beautifully. The neck can turn side to side, as well as up and down. The entire body is needle-felted from wool, with no stuffed parts. I sculpted the face myself from special clay. The whole doll is covered with fabric made specifically for dollmaking. Her eyes are painted with textile paints, and her cheeks are softly blushed with beeswax crayons. She has natural mohair hair, which should be handled gently. I sew all her outfits using my own original patterns, and I also make the shoes from natural leather. She stands approximately 45-46 cm (17.3 inches) tall and is intended for ages 12+ or adult doll collectors.
